As part of the launch of the #CitizensRoute73 the participants worked on Sunday 2 July in two categories of workshops: 1) the proposals of programmes that could be presented as part of a trans-European campaign for the 2019 European election; 2) the tools and methods necessary to allow the emergence of a real trans-European political debate over the next two years. The Youtube channel #CR73 was one of those identified tools.
It is heartening that leading European politicians, emboldened by Brexit, are currently talking about converting the 73 UK seats in the European Parliament into ‘supranational’ seats in 2019. This indicates some political willingness to viscerally transform the EP electoral system.
On July 1-2, 2017 on the University of Louvain-la-Neuve, thanks to the hosting and support of the municipality of Ottignies-Louvain la Neuve, the Franck Biancheri and iCAN networks, in partnership with a number of other organisations of the European civil society1, gathered close to 150 people during 2 days dedicated to launching the citizen process of EU democratisation, #CitizensRoute73.
